Photos Editing Markup keeps crashing, does anyone know of a solution or better program?

I'm trying to do a presentation project with maps using a screenshot of satellite photo and then adding a lot of detail using Photo Editing Markup on my MacBook. I haven't had this problem before but after 4-5 hours of adding a lot of little texts/arrows/circles/boxes/etc (more than I had on previous projects) the whole thing crashes before I get a chance to save it. I'll save it at various points along the way next time, but does anyone more experienced have an answer/solution?

Does anyone know of a better app/program for making custom maps with a lot of options for adding details?
