Screen Mirror Macbook to iMac

Hi everyone

Trying to work out a way to do this but it seems everything I'm finding relates to a newer or older model than one of the two devices I'm using..

I have a MacBook Pro (2017) which I use for work and I also have an iMac (late 2015). I want to be able to use my iMac somehow as a monitor as it's obviously a larger screen. Is there a way to mirror my Macbook to my iMac? I've tried standard Screen Mirroring but it doesn't detect my iMac. I've looked, and there doesn't seem to be a USB-C to Thunderbolt cable I could use to connect them either. I realise there are quite a few years between them, and that certain methods have come and gone in that time - but is there a way (or a combination of ways) I could achieve this with these devices?

Thanking you in advance!

Hi WarmWays,

For help with using Target display mode, check your system requirements and view the information below found in the article here: Use your iMac as a display with target display mode

"The following older iMac models can be used as an external display when plugged into another older Mac model.

iMac models introduced in 2011, 2012, 2013, and mid 2014

To use any of these iMac models as an external display:

  • The iMac used as a display must have macOS High Sierra or earlier installed.
  • The other Mac that you're connecting it to must have been introduced in 2019 or earlier and have macOS Catalina or earlier installed.
  • The cable connecting the two Mac computers must be a Thunderbolt  or Thunderbolt 2  cable.

24-inch and 27-inch iMac models introduced in 2009 and 2010

To use any of these iMac models as an external display:

  • The iMac used as a display must have macOS High Sierra or earlier installed.
  • The other Mac that you're connecting it to must have been introduced in 2019 or earlier and have macOS Catalina or earlier installed.
  • The cable connecting the two Mac computers must be a Mini DisplayPort  cable."

As the 2015 iMac isn't listed you'll need an alternate external display. If needed the article here can get you started. Use one or more external displays with your Mac

Cheers.
