iPhone Contacts, such a mess

why my iphone keeps adding back deleted contacts, asking me repeatedly to merge duplicates, even after doing it several times, merges contacts with different details in the company field. i am fed up with the contacts app, it is next to impossible to tidy it up, the phone itself does not allow

Hi,

thanks for your reply

i think you misunderstood my question

i am not asking how to store my contacts on my iphone, i have been using an iphone for last 12-13 years

i have multiple accounts synced to my iphone, as different accounts have different contacts and i want all of them to be available on my phone.

but few contacts are common across all /some accounts, so i would expect a particular contact to go away if i delete it on my phone, unfortunately that is not happening, they reappear after sometime

then recently, i am getting notifications that i have so many duplicates, once by mistake i chose to merge all and it was greatest folly of my life, i have a few contacts of different people with same name and surname, but they have different details in the 3rd column (Company), even those contacts were merged. then i have even tried to merging individual contacts after checking but i find those i merged yesterday have come back today, the duplicates count is back to where it was or even increased, it is such a royal mess

Apple should try to set this properly, this is such a basic thing on a phone

hope you understand my pain

There are no limits to the number of contacts you can sync with an iPhone.

When you look deeply you will find that Contacts are neither stored on an iPhone nor on SIM. They are synced to an email account that you may have added and enabled Contacts. It could be Google, iCloud, AOL, Exchange, Outlook, Yahoo or any Other email client server.

When you enable Contacts in any of the email accounts they are displayed to you through the Contacts App. When you edit these contacts on an iPhone they are ultimately edited on the client-server.

Please see the pic below for a better understanding...

If you are unable to find your contacts which were stored in the email client, then try this --> Restore contacts, calendars, bookmarks, and more using ...

Check if the email account has been removed from the iOS mail app.

Add the email account that stores your contacts in the IOS mail app and enable Contacts.

What is your default Contacts account? If none, please add an email account and enable contacts.

See the pic below

Unlike some Android devices, contacts are neither stored locally on an iPhone nor in SIM. They are synced to an email account that you had Google, iCloud, AOL, Exchange, Outlook, Yahoo or any Other

If you have a corporate email account added through a profile on your device, please check with your organization's system administrator.
