Deleting a passport hard drive in time machine

Purchased a new passport HD for MAC to replace an old passport HD that quit working.

Tried to just plug in the new but Time Machine still shows only the old drive. won't recognize the new drive. any suggestions on how to delete the old drive ?

iMac 21.5″ 4K, macOS 13.1
