Laptop screen goes away when I cast to TV

Greetings:

MacBook Pro 2020 M1, Ventura 13.0.1

Previously when sending my MacBook screen to the TV you could see the screen on the laptop, and the same screen on the TV. Now when I cast to the TV the screen on the laptop goes to a blank wallpaper and you get the screen on the TV only. Is there a setting to change this so that I can see the screen I'm using on the laptop and the TV at the same time?

Thank you in advance.

<< the laptop goes to a blank wallpaper >>

then you display is working as designed.

what may be different from the last time you did this is the settings in the arrangement pane. this is what extended desktop will show you. the 'second' display would have the desktop background, just as you described:

this is what you would get with mirror displays OFF:

Note the icons for the two displays are ALMOST coincident. They are separated just enough for you to drag them apart if desired..
