Macbook Pro Screen suddenly High Contrast, Sometimes Flickering

The display on my 2017 MacBook Pro has suddenly become super contrasty. I tried making adjustments with calibration etc. but that doesn't solve the problem. Also the screen occasionally flickers, which it never did before. Any thoughts/solutions, or am I looking at a hardware issue and potential hefty repair bill?

Thanks.

Thanks so much, but alas the problem remains.

Hello JohnnoinJapan,

We want to work with you on this to find out more about your display concerns.

If one or more settings stored in NVRAM don't work as expected on an Intel-based Mac, resetting NVRAM might help.

Use the quoted steps below for your device:

How to reset NVRAM
Option keyplusCommand keyplusP keyplusR key
1. Shut down your Mac.
2. Turn on your Mac, then immediately press and hold these four keys together: Option, Command, P, R.
3. Release the keys after about 20 seconds, during which your Mac might appear to restart. For example, you might hear a startup sound more than once, or see the Apple logo more than once.
4. When your Mac finishes starting up, you might need to adjust any system settings that were reset.

We hope this helps.

Cheers.
