Hello JoshuaCM,

Thank you for reaching out to Apple Support Communities, and we'll be happy to help in any way we can. We understand you're having issues listening to music with the Lightning to 3.5mm Headphone Jack Adapter.

It appears that you tried using a different set of headphones with the same result. We would next suggest trying this adapter in another iPhone or iPad. This will eliminate your iPhone as the issue.

If you are not able to listen to music with the adapter in another device, it is pretty certain that the adapter is the problem and will need to be replaced. You can get another one here: https://www.apple.com/shop/product/MMX62AM/A/lightning-to-35-mm-headphone-jack-adapter or you can possibly find one at a local store where electronics are sold.

If you are able to listen to music on another device with this adapter, then you will need to look into your iPhone. You can contact Apple Support for assistance with the iPhone.

We hope this helps.

Cheers!

Thanks for keeping the thread up to speed with your results JoshuaCM,

It seems the issue may be the adaptor, if other connections work without issues on your iPhone. From here, we recommend that you contact Apple Support.

You can also set up an appointment to visit a location using the Apple Support app available for iOS devices, or through the following page: Apple - Find Locations

If the adaptor is less than a year old, it may be covered under warranty.

Take care!

I found that it works with another iphone, but it also works with the same iphone in another position.

I don't know specifically what is the cause, but the charger works with the phone, so it is not the pins most likely of the phone itself.

I also tried an apple brand lighting end wired headphone set. It did not have the problem of intermittent connection.

The adapter plugged into the old set above does not seem to have a problem when it is just laying down on something or in my hands while stationary, but if it is basically in a protective case and in motion, it will stop working without becoming disconnected from the device. It just is not detected anymore when I am moving around, but it is still fully plugged in. Then if I set the phone down, and plug it in, it will work.

I do not know what that means.
