AirPods Pro 2 Microphone is muffled on phone calls

Hey there,

When calling somebody with my AirPods Pro 2 (A2931), I sound muffled according to the persons I call. I tested it by calling my own voicemail and that is right, I am difficult to understand.

I sound perfect when I record a voice memo.

What I did so far - calling my voicemail each time to test it - and none of this changed anything :

1/ resetting my AirPods pro (twice)

2/ trying with the left one only in my ear and the other one in the case

3/ trying with the right one only in my ear and the other one in the case

4/ trying with both in my ears

5/ enabling the wifi calls option

6/ disabling the wifi calls option

I also own a pair of AirPods (A2032) which I use in similar conditions (same iPhone 12 mini) and have no problems with these.

Please help !

Thanks in advance

Edmond J.

Thanks for your answer but I feel like you're a chatbot.

1. My AirPods Pro are new and very clean

2. As written above, I already tried resetting them

3. I am not speaking about my iPhone speaker (which works perfectly fine) but my AirPods Pro microphone

Waiting for a real answer from a human being,

Hi errefocin,

The following resource has some steps that may be helpful if you've noticed an issue with sound when using your iPhone: If you hear no sound or distorted sound from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch speaker.

1. Remove all screen protectors, films, or cases from your device.
2. Check the speaker opening to see if it's blocked or dirty. On iPhone only, make sure that the receiver isn't blocked or dirty.
3. If necessary, clean the speaker or receiver opening with a small, soft-bristled brush. Make sure that the brush is clean and dry.
4. Go to Settings > Sounds (or Settings > Sounds & Haptics), and drag the Ringer and Alerts slider back and forth a few times. If you don't hear any sound, or if your speaker button on the Ringer and Alerts slider is dimmed, your speaker might need service.
5. If you hear sound, try making a call with your iPhone and turn on speakerphone. On iPad or iPod touch, make a FaceTime call. If you still can't hear, or hear static or crackling, then your network or reception could be the issue. Try to call again later, or from a different location.

If you find that this only occurs when using your AirPods, make sure they're free of any dirt or debris, as this could cause the issue you've described: How to clean your AirPods, AirPods Pro, AirPods Max, and EarPods.

If the issue persists, resetting them may help: How to reset your AirPods and AirPods Pro.

Regards.
