Screen mirroring has stopped working, no device is recognized.

I have an iPad Mini 2 which can no longer be updated due to age. It’s ”stuck” on iOS 12.5.5. Other than that it still works fine and until a few months ago, I could screen mirror to my Apple TV. But now, my iPad can no longer recognize any device to mirror to. I don’t know if this is related to the lack of update or not, since screen mirroring did work until recently. I was also recently at someone else’s house and my iPad was able to find their Apple TV, so I don’t know what the issue is at my house. I have not updated the Apple TV manually but I don’t know if it’s updated automatically.

Hello josefindragonfly,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities!

We want to help ensure the iPad mini 2 is correctly mirroring to your Apple TV.

Let's make sure you're using these steps:

"Mirror your iPad on Apple TV or a smart TV

On Apple TV or a smart TV, you can show whatever appears on your iPad.

  1. Open Control Center on your iPad.
  2. Tap the Screen Mirroring button, then choose your Apple TV or an AirPlay 2-enabled smart TV as the playback destination.
  3. If an AirPlay passcode appears on the TV screen, enter the passcode on your iPad.

To switch back to iPad, open Control Center, tap the Screen Mirroring button, then tap Stop Mirroring."

If the issue continues, try restarting all involved devices then try again.

We hope these steps can help isolate and resolve the problem so you can mirror your iPad again without issue.

Cheers!

Hi Justin, thank you for your reply. But like I described above, I have already done these steps and have used the screen mirror function with this device almost daily until one day it just stopped working. Now, when I open my iPad’s control center and choose ”Screen mirroring”, it just says ”Looking for Apple TV…” but then nothing happens. It never finds the Apple TV even though the TV is turned on and seems to work just as well as all the other times I’ve screen mirrored.
