New Mac not mounting external drive

I'm having so many issues with my new macbook pro (2022 14" M1). So frustrating. The newest issue is that it no longer mounts my external working drive. Upon trying to mount it via Disk Utilities I get the error (com.apple.DiskManagement.disenter error 49153.) Any insights would be appreciated.

It’s ExFAT, and not a new drive. It’s the “daily driver” for the past year, after the most recent update, the 2022 Mac is not mounting it, only the 2012 and 2016 macs running previous versions of OS X.

Hi mysha13,


Make sure your drive is formatted so it can be read by macOS per File system formats available in Disk Utility on Mac:


"Disk Utility on Mac supports several file system formats:

  • Apple File System (APFS): The file system used by macOS 10.13 or later.
  • Mac OS Extended: The file system used by macOS 10.12 or earlier.
  • MS-DOS (FAT) and ExFAT: File systems that are compatible with Windows."


You may also check the following support article provides some troubleshooting steps to try for external drive issues using Repair a storage device in Disk Utility on Mac:


  1. "In the Disk Utility app  on your Mac, choose View > Show All Devices.
  2. If Disk Utility isn’t open, click the Launchpad icon  in the Dock, type Disk Utility in the Search field, then click the Disk Utility icon .
  3. Note: If you’re checking your startup disk or startup volume, restart your computer in macOS Recovery. See the Apple Support article About macOS Recovery on Intel-based Mac computers. Next, select Disk Utility in the macOS Recovery window, then click Continue. If you check your startup volume (Macintosh HD), make sure you also check your data volume (Macintosh HD - Data).
  4. In the sidebar, select a volume, then click the First Aid button .
  5. In the First Aid dialog, click Run, then follow the onscreen instructions.
  6. When the First Aid process is complete, click Done.
  7. Repeat steps 2 through 4 for each volume on the storage device.
  8. In the sidebar, select a container, then click the First Aid button .
  9. In the First Aid dialog, click Run, then follow the onscreen instructions.
  10. When the First Aid process is complete, click Done.
  11. Repeat steps 6 through 8 for each container on the storage device.
  12. In the sidebar, select the storage device, then click the First Aid button .
  13. In the First Aid dialog, click Run, then follow the onscreen instructions.

I am having the same issue. Brand new M1 MacBook Pro running Ventura 13.1 - Just like you, this drive has been my daily driver and works fine on my old 2018 MBP running Ventura 13.0.1 It is instantly recognized and usable. I think there may be a wee bug in 13.1

Sometimes you may end up getting the “com.apple.DiskManagement.disenter error” on your Mac which mean that there is an issue with macOS or an external hard drive. Due to that error message, your system can’t mount the drive and can’t access its content. Many times even a simple restart may fix the problem. However, if not, then you can try the below fixes to resolve the issue:


1. Check connectivity problems

2. Use first aid to check for errors

3. Mount the disk in terminal

4. Reformat the unmountable disk

I am having the very same issue. I see a ghost (flash and immediately disappears in a split second) of the normal popup that asks one to allow. I always have to do a full restart which is extremely unproductive when I am in the middle of a work day with many programs and files open at the same time.


This is 100% a bug that needs to be fixed.

We can't fix (or even track) bugs from the forums. Engineering effort to fix bugs is applied only in response to Bug Reports.


To file a Bug Report, contact support, work with the first responder to go through their checklist of obvious issues (¿is it plugged in properly?). if no solution, be polite and professional, and ASK FOR A SPECIALIST.

The specialist will probably have to contact you again later.


Specialists are more knowledgeable in their areas of expertise, but far less patient. You can freely reference things posted on the forums, but they never take out word for things, they have their own more rigorous methods for data collection and analysis.


One of the most important items you can provide is EXACTLY how to replicate the issue you encountered.
