Apple Books page numbering change

In one of the more recent updates, Apple Books changed their whole layout, including the way that they number pages. Before the most recent update when my iPad was horizontal and there were two pages on the screen each of those 2 pages received its own page number. Now in that same configuration Apple Books counts both pages just as one page and makes the total page count of books appear as half of what they actually are. Is there any setting to make the page number more accurate and count every page?
