Chrome set as Default Browser - Safari Still pulls up for links

I have Chrome set as my default browser on my Macbook, however, all links open up through Safari. This just started happening recently. How do I fix it?

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 11.6

Hey there chelsea-j,

That is a strange thing to occur, especially since you have it set to use Google Chrome for your default browser. While you may need to contact Apple Support for further help, we'd like to rule out what we can first:

  1. When did this start?
  2. Does this only occur with specific links, or any links you try opening from your Mac?
  3. Sometimes unexpected behavior can be resolved with a restart. Check out the section ‘Restart your Mac' here: Log out, sleep, wake, restart, or shut down your Mac
  4. We see you have macOS 11.6 installed. For compatible models, the latest version is macOS 13.1. While it's not necessary to update to the newest major version, we do recommend making sure that you have the latest for the currently installed version, which is macOS 11.7.2. You can verify this by clicking on the Apple logo at the top left corner of the screen, then on ‘About This Mac’. In case you needed it, this link shows how to first back up, then Update macOS on Mac.

Cheers!
