The trust my computer box keeps flashing and won't take my choice

I connected my new iphone 14 running ios 16.1.2 to my Macbook Pro (2015 model) running MacOS Monterey 12.6.1. This is the first time they are connected via the USB cable. The dialog box whether to trust the computer keeps flashing on my iphone. It won't stay long enough for me to definitively touch either of the buttons (Trust or Don't Trust). I still tried to be quick on touched the Trust button several times but it doesn't take my choice.

I saw a suggestion to Reset my Location & Privacy settings but that didn't help.

I am stuck. Please help.

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 12.6

Hello easyiotuser,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities.

We understand that you have been unable to click to “Trust This Computer”. We are happy to help.

We recommend disconnecting your iPhone from your computer, then restart your iPhone and your computer.

How to restart your iPhone: Restart your iPhone - Apple Support

"How to restart your iPhone X, 11, 12, 13, or later

  1. Press and hold either volume button and the side button until the power-off slider appears.
  2. Drag the slider, then wait 30 seconds for your device to turn off. If your device is frozen or unresponsive, force restart your device.
  3. To turn your device back on, press and hold the side button (on the right side of your iPhone) until you see the Apple logo.

How to restart your Mac: Shut down or restart your Mac - Apple Support

"Restart your Mac

  • On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > Restart.
  • If you don’t want app windows that are open to reopen when your Mac restarts, deselect “Reopen windows when logging back in.”"

Once both your Mac and iPhone have fully restart, please follow the steps here: About the 'Trust This Computer' alert on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

"Choose whether to trust a computer

  1. Connect your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your computer or another device.
  2. Enter your passcode, if you have one, to unlock your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
  3. If you want to allow your computer to access information on your device, select your device in Finder and click Trust, or if you're using iTunes, click Continue.
  4. On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, confirm that you allow your computer or other device to access your data. If you don't want to trust the computer or other connected device, tap Don't Trust on your device. If you want to trust your computer, tap Trust."

Let us know if you have further questions.

Take care.
