I put in the wrong password multiple times into my MacBook - - whenever I go into to log in as of today it stills says - account is locked- is this normal for such a long lock down period?

I put in the wrong password multiple times and now I have been locked out over four days . Whenever I go to log in with the password- ( that I know now) - it still tells me - account is locked - is this normal? I contacted Apple support - and they said to wait a day - well I did - still locked out - they brought up I might have to ~ erase all data and restore from a previous date . Anyone else experience this?

Hey 2023wj,

Have you attempted to reset the password. Generally when getting a message such as the account is locked due to incorrect passwords, resetting the password resolves the issue. To reset/change password using your Apple ID, follow the steps below.

If you associated your user account with your Apple ID, you can use your Apple ID to reset your login password.
1. Click the question mark  next to the password field.
• If you don’t see a question mark , press and hold the power button until your Mac shuts down, then press the power button to restart your Mac.
2. Click the arrow  next to “reset it using your Apple ID.”
• If you don’t see an arrow , see the Apple Support article If you can’t reset your Mac login password.
3. Enter an Apple ID and password, then click Next.
• Follow the instructions to reset your login password.

If you don’t remember your Apple ID password, see If you forget your Apple ID or password.

This article includes the steps above and also steps on how to reset your login password using a recovery key: Reset your Mac login password. If you do have a recovery key, you can use those steps to reset as well.

Take care.
