When using my Apple TV the screen seems to get darker as as we watch and so becomes too dark to watch! If I reboot the Apple TV it seems to be better for a while and then goes back to two dark again. Also tried changing HDI cables no affect.My TV is fine when using cable and Google Chromecast So I know it’s not the TV!

Swapping out the cable is a good start at isolating what is causing this.
When using Google Chromecast or cable, is the same input used? If not, we would suggest plugging the Apple TV into a different input and see if the issue continues: Set up your Apple TV - Apple Support
We would also take this isolation step a bit further and test the Apple TV with a different TV to see if the issue repeats itself. This will tell you where to concentrate your troubleshooting.
