On my Mac screen time still goes on even when I close my macbook.

After waking up in the morning I opened up my Macbook and noticed I used up 8+ hours of screen time when I just started opening it. How? I checked my screen and the "All apps" category was showing it was up the 8+ hours of usage. How do I make sure my app usage doesn't go all the way up even when I close my laptop?

It's frustrating seeing inaccurate screen usage on my Macbook.

MacBook Air, macOS 13.1

It's possible that the screen time usage on your Mac is showing inaccurate numbers due to a bug or other issue. Here are a few things you can try to troubleshoot the problem:

  1. Restart your Mac: Sometimes, simply restarting your device can resolve issues like this. To restart your Mac, click on the Apple menu in the top left corner of the screen, and then select "Restart."
  2. Check your Mac's settings: Make sure that the "Prevent computer from sleeping automatically when the display is off" option is turned off in your Mac's Energy Saver settings. To access these settings, click on the Apple menu in the top left corner of the screen, select "System Preferences," and then click on "Energy Saver."
  3. Check for a software update: Make sure that your Mac is running the latest version of macOS. You can check for updates by going to the App Store, clicking on the "Updates" tab, and then installing any available updates.
  4. Reset your Mac's SMC (System Management Controller): If the above steps don't help, you can try resetting your Mac's SMC. This can help resolve issues with power, battery, and other system-level functions. To reset your Mac's SMC, follow these steps:
  • Shut down your Mac
  • Unplug the power cord
  • Wait 15 seconds
  • Plug the power cord back in
  • Wait 5 seconds
  • Turn your Mac back on

I hope one of these steps helps resolve the issue you're experiencing. If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
