Faded/Washed out colors

The last. few weeks, after upgrading to Ventura, the colors on all my webpages,

Apple TV, and most other apps has appeared washed out, sometimes looking almost to the point of being negative images. When pages are supposed to be white, they show up as black - even when trying to print a Page. It's very disconcerting and has left me with a big problem trying to print a return mail page that should be white, but instead is showing in Preview as black and wanting to print that way as well.

Suggestions? Thoughts? I've turned off Dark Mode, stopped the system day/night changes, turned off Color changes in Chrome. Not sure what else to try.

Hello ddhatfi,

To resolve the issue and isolate it further, let's test in Safari using the same websites.

Also, let's test the issue in safe mode?  If you are not familiar with the safe mode steps, you can follow the steps here: How to use safe mode on your Mac to get it done. Once in safe mode, you'd want to use the Mac as you normally would to see if the issue occurs again. You can tell when the Mac is in safe mode because on the desktop it will show the words Safe Boot in the top right-hand corner of the screen. Those steps are also below.

" Apple silicon

  1. Shut down your Mac.
  2. Turn on your Mac and continue to press and hold the power button until you see the startup options window.
  3. Select your startup disk, then press and hold the Shift key while clicking “Continue in Safe Mode.”
  4. Log in to your Mac. You might be asked to log in again.

Intel processor

  1. Turn on or restart your Mac, then immediately press and hold the Shift key as your Mac starts up.
  2. Release the key when you see the login window, then log in to your Mac.
  3. You might be asked to log in again. On either the first or second login window, you should see ”Safe Boot” in the upper-right corner of the window."

Lastly, you can view how to manage the brightness on your Mac here: Change your Mac display’s brightness that are also listed below.

"Manually adjust brightness

  1. On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > System Settings, then click Displays  in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.)
  2. Drag the Brightness slider on the right to adjust the brightness of your display.

Depending on the type of display connected to your Mac, you may also see a Contrast slider that you can use to adjust the display’s contrast."

Best regards.

I swear 95% of the replies on any issues are hilarious.

Like, "make sure your mac is properly connected via the magsafe charger", to a question about the display.

No. This is a bug, the Ventura update changed the color profile system wide, to a wide gamut profile and in turn alot of apps that never had this on will look faded because the 'conversion' is making it appear smaller on the scale of that profile. It's like taking a small cup of water, and pouring it into a much bigger cup of water. It won't fill up, but there is water being moved over. What you're left with in this situation is less amount of water compared to the previous cup. This other person really said check if your colours were inverted. What a joke
