Your Mac should already be registered with your Apple ID once you sign in to it.
Please note that if you choose to enable Find My Mac in particular, that will also enable an anti-theft technology called Activation Lock. It prevents anyone from erasing and reusing your Mac without your Apple ID password. Make sure that you can always access your Apple ID in case you ever need to remove that or erase your Mac.
