Safari on Monterey can't open downloaded files

I recently switched from Catalina to Monterey (12.6.2), and now after I have downloaded a file, and then clicking on the 'Show downloads' icon, and then double-clicking on the downloaded file I get this error popup:

Safari can't open the file ...

because no available application can open it

This happend on every kind of file (dmg, pdf, pkg, etc.).

When I click on 'Show in Finder' I can double-click on the file and it opens without problems.

What can I do to solve this?

Hi there pietvo,

If you're not able to open the file directly from Safari, try deleting and redownloading the file to see if that helps:

Make sure you have the app needed to open the file. If you do, the file may have been corrupted during the download. Delete it, then try downloading it again.

You'll find this information here: If you can’t download an item from the web using Safari on Mac

If that doesn't seem to help, try clearing your Safari history with the steps here: Clear your browsing history in Safari on Mac

Take care.
