Apple Watch Won't Track Workouts When First Put On (Daily)

Hi,

I have an issue with my Apple Watch, where when I wake up in the morning and put the watch on everything function works fine apart from Heart Rate Tracking (I open the app but it won't measure heart rate) and Workout Tracking (I can open the app but when I click to start a workout it won't log that I am pressing on the workout). During this time no Activity is tracked.

This normally resolves itself in about 15-45 minutes, but it's incredibly frustrating as I like to wake up and work out first thing and often can't log the first portion of my workouts.

This has been an ongoing issue and has happened on my Series 7, now Ultra and across multiple versions of iOS and WatchOS (both are up to date). I have tried unpairing the watch and re-pairing and it still hasn't resolved the issue.

Any ideas what is causing this?

OK if it is software, what software only affects the first hour of use?

I would try unpairing and erasing then set up as a new Watch. You know the drill if you have been using for all that time.

Uninstall any unnecessary apps.

Think what software you may have installed on the iPhone, like security apps or VPN based adblockers. Anything that may upset the Watch when mirrored.

If this has been happening on more than one Watch on various OS versions then it looks like an environmental or ambient reason.

Maybe you have a particularly dark skin or tattoos? Is your location well shielded from any gps signal?

Is the Watch worn too loose or too tight? are you using a third party metal strap? Is there a focus on the iPhone that turns off after 45 minutes? What else do you do after 45 minutes that may relesase the block?

So no answer but a number of things for you to think about.

Hi,

I think I can rule out those factors for a couple of reasons:

1) I’ve had Apple Watches pretty much since they came out and it’s only recently I’ve had this issue

2) It didn’t start occurring until pretty much one year in to wearing my S7

3) I assumed the watch was faulty, so I bought the Ultra. This was fine for a few weeks but the issue has got progressively worse since then

I assume it must be a software issue or clash with apps / permissions (I have several fitness apps I use) but am struggling to identify what resolves it.
