Should I upgrade my iPad?

Hey y’all and happy holidays! Here’s my question…for the last month or so, I’ve been thinking about upgrading my current 7th Generation iPad to the new 10th Generation but when I started doing some research on YouTube, I honestly got some pretty mixed reviews - some say it’s great, others say it’s a waste of money and don’t recommend it mainly because now you need a dongle to use the Apple Pencil and it’s apparently way more inconvenient. I honestly got a bit overwhelmed and still can’t decide for myself if getting the 10 would be worth it, especially since I’d like to start using my Apple Pencil more often if I get a new iPad. (for digital planning, for example) What are your thoughts? Honestly, anything that would help me decide, would be very appreciated.

You can directly compare the headline specifications of the iPad7 and iPad10 here:

There are many differences - including a significant step-up in performance.

As you are evidently aware, the first generation Pencil is charged and paired from iPad10 using the iPad charging cable - and an Apple USB-C to Apple Pencil Adapter:

Using the charging cable and special adapter is actually a benefit - as it removes a major source of potential damage from the iPad - as before the Pencil rigidly projected from the iPad during charging.

ALL base model iPads ( 6th through the new 10th gen ) use the older, original, 1st gen Apple Pencil.

Your 7th gen 10.2 inch screen iPad can use the 1st gen Apple Pencil.

You could just purchase a 1st gen Apple Pencil to use with your current 2019, 7th gen iPad.

Do not, necessarily, need to purchase a new iPad model.

Your 7th gen iPad is only 3 to 3-1/2 years old.

Still has plenty of support life left to go

Apple supports their mobile devices for, at least, 5-6 years.

The choices are yours.

If you decide to purchase a new 10th gen iPad with a 1st gen Apple Pencil, you,,also, need to purchase this new $9 U.S.D. Apple Pencil USB-C to Apple Lightning adapter.

Tap the online Apple Store link below.

USB-C to Apple Pencil Adapter - Apple

This new adapter is a necessary and must purchase accessory to use an Apple Pencil 1st gen with the new base model, 2022, 10th gen iPad.

Good Luck to You!
