How does Apple/iCloud backup handle data/text messages with an iPhone using dual sims?

I want to use dual sims with my iPhone 14ProMax. How does Apple or iCloud backup handle the data, text messages and call information? Is this information stored separately by number or only by Apple ID?

For example, I am using two iPhones with different numbers right now. If I started using dual sims on one iPhone, will the text message history/data and calling information on the phone I am no longer going to use make it to the iPhone using dual sims?

Also, should I decide to stop using an iPhone with dual sims, is it possible to separate texts/call information to be put on their respective devices? Or how do you separate contacts/text messages from the different numbers to the two different iPhones?

Thanks ..

Hello dc1030guy,

That's a wonderful question! iCloud backups are specific to your Apple ID. After you import the number from the iPhone you're looking to no longer use to the new iPhone 14 Pro Max as the second line, incoming calls and messages to that number would start to come through. Existing message threads and call histories would remain associated to your older device. There isn't a way to merge the information from different iPhones, phone numbers, or Apple IDs. You can learn more about using Dual SIM on your iPhone via the following article.

Take care!
