hi,
Mac monterey 12.51
when i open finder there is no downloads folder
if i go into preferences and sidebar, the downloads box is ticked, but it just has the symbol and no lettering to say downloads
i can find it by searching but its a white page and not a document and when you click it says 'the operation can't be completed because the item can't be found'
how can i resolve this?

In Finder >> Go >> Home and refer to images below
Does the " Download " folder appear in second image below
If so, Drag the Download Icon to the Dock and positioned after the icon for System Preferences and before the Trash icon
Refer to Third image below
Re the third image there is a white document called 'downloads' but it is not a folder, simply a white page which says 'the operation can’t be completed because the original item for “Downloads” can’t be found.'
The Third Image is a representation of the actual folder in the " Home Folder " in the Second Image.
So is the user saying the " Home Folder " ( second image ) and " Downloads Folder " is not there ?
thanks, i put system preferences in the dock and was trying to put 'downloads' between it and trash and even though i didnt succeed, whatever i did all of a sudden my downloads folder reappeared
