Finder stuck at "loading"

See attached screenshots of my iMac running the latest Ventura version. When changing from gallery view to column view of a folder on an SSD drive attached via Thunderbolt to my iMac I am seeing the Finder window stuck at loading for ages (many many minutes). Yet there doesn't seem to be any load factors (CPU, memory or disk I/O) that are showing as affecting this sluggish behaviour. Any suggestions?

I realize this isn't an answer to your question and I apologize. But I see you use bpytop. I successfully installed it but when I run it in terminal....all the colors blend all together and is unreadable. How did you get yours to show properly? I installed x-code and ran sudo port install bpytop. Which worked. But as mentioned it's totally unreadable. The backgrounds are all in colors instead of black like yours. (M1 iMac, Monterey 13.1)

@Randall_2023

 $ bpytop --help

usage: bpytop [-h] [-b BOXES] [-lc] [-v] [--debug]

options:

 -h, --help      show this help message and exit

 -b BOXES, --boxes BOXES

            which boxes to show at start, example: -b "cpu mem net proc"

 -lc, --low-color   disable truecolor, converts 24-bit colors to 256-color

 -v, --version     show version info and exit

 --debug        start with loglevel set to DEBUG overriding value set in config

I use the -lc option and I find that makes the display readable in the Mac terminal.

sudo bpytop -lc
