Apple Music streaming on Alexa devices

I have Spotify for music. With the family plan cost being comparable to Apple Music I want to switch and get Apple One plan. But one of the main features that I love about Spotify which seems to be unavailable on Apple Music is the option for direct streaming on Alexa devices. With Spotify, I can simply pick which Alexa device I want to stream my music from but I can't find that option in Apple Music.

Am I missing something or is this just another classic case of Apple not caring about what customers want and just forcing their way?

Faith,

Thanks for helping me with this. I am aware of the skill addition. However, the problem is that this way only covers when I'm using voice commands to play music. But let's say I'm not near my Alexa devices and trying to play Apple Music on my devices that are in the living room. With Spotify, you can simply play music on any device you like and all Alexa devices are visible. It's similar to Airplay on Apple Music but Airplay only shows Apple devices and none of the Alexa devices. Is there any way to get them to show up on Airplay?

Thank you,

Hello arashr15,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. You can use Alexa to play songs, playlists and more with Apple Music. To get set up, start with the following guidance in Play Apple Music with Alexa. Then, set up Apple Music as your default music service so that requests automatically use Apple Music.

"Set up Apple Music with Alexa

  1. Open the Amazon Alexa app.
  2. In the lower-right corner, tap More.
  3. Tap Skills & Games.
  4. In the upper-right corner, tap the search field, then enter Apple Music.
  5. Tap Enable To Use.
  6. Tap Settings.
  7. Tap Link Account.
  8. Follow the instructions to sign in with your Apple ID. Get help signing in with two-factor authentication."

Take care.

Hello arashr15,

AirPlay will show any AirPlay-2 devices in range. If the Alexa device is set up like that, then there may be limitations set by Amazon. Apple allows AirPlay to any devices in range that meet the requirements. While this isn't exactly the same, it shows info about AirPlay-2: Wirelessly stream videos and photos to Apple TV or a smart TV from iPod touch

You should leave feedback so Apple and Amazon can allow this to work in the future: Apple Feedback

Thanks.
