I just got an iPhone 14 pro, I don’t understand the difference between “business” and “primary”. Now all of a sudden I am unable to send text messages to non iPhone users. I can receive them, just can’t send them. Please help.

I just got an iPhone 14 pro, I don’t understand the difference between “business” and “primary”. Now all of a sudden I am unable to send text messages to non iPhone users. I can receive them, just can’t send them. Also, it’s showing that my “primary” is in SOS only mode. Please help.

For your first question, it sounds like you're asking what the difference between the 'Business' and 'Primary' labels would be regarding labeling your cellular plans.


While labeling your plans is up to you, we do recommend labeling the cellular plan you use the most as 'Primary', and using 'Business' to label another one if you use it for work purposes. For the issue occurring with not being able to send text messages to non-iPhone contacts, we recommend taking the steps here: If you can't send or receive messages on your iPhone or iPad Keep in mind that part of the steps include contacting your carrier.

Assuming your carrier is Verizon, when you activate an iPhone 14 on Verizon their automated system does not set up MMS correctly. To fix it you need to call Verizon tech support (611 on your phone), tell the nice representative who answers that you need to speak to a senior tech to fix a problem with the provisioning of MMS on your account. This is a universal problem with the iPhone 14 provisioning by Verizon, so the tech should know how to fix it. And hopefully the 1st tier reps will eventually learn also.
