Exclamation mark on wifi icon and 1005D error code?

My 2017 MacBook Pro has an exclamation mark on the wifi icon. I’ve booted into safe mode as well as recovery mode and there’s no wifi icon in those modes.

I’ve reset the NVRAM and the SMC. I’ve rebooted my router too though I doubt it’s the router cause our wifi works just fine on other devices.

I ran a diagnostics test and got the 1005D error code. Wireless diagnostics doesn’t work because the app closes right after I click on it.

I reinstalled Ventura but I still can't connect to wifi. Is there anything else I could do ?

Welcome and good work there 👍

Doing a System Management Controller Reset ( SMC ) is know to relieve an otherwise difficult issue to resolve.

" It does say ‘weak security’ and the wifi icon still has an exclamation mark but it works. " does tend to indicate the Router Wifi Security for the broadcast Signal is worthy of some explorations.

Perhaps this suggested Apple Support Document on this topic can help pinpoint some setting on the Router that needs adjustments

Thanks for your reply! It only says ‘software versions’, no ‘interfaces’ or ‘current network information’.

t stopped working again my MacBook restarted on its own and we’re back to square one… no wifi connection nor does the hardware show up in system information…I’ll just send it to Apple

It appears to have a fault. intermittent fault, either way you have a hardware issue—take it in.

This error 1005D means it is having an issue connecting over wifi....

From >(Option key)System Information>Network>Wifi is your hardware being recognized by the system?

if not you have a hardware issue.

Update: It suddenly worked! Last night before I went to sleep I reset the smc and the nvram again. I also deleted the wifi service and tried re-adding it but there was no wifi option for me to re-add so I gave up.

This morning it still didn’t work but as my laptop was connected to the internet via Ethernet, a network controller icon appeared on the menu bar and I was able to re-add a wifi service again. Initially it wouldn’t connect to my wifi but I forgot the network and reconnected and now it works. It does say ‘weak security’ and the wifi icon still has an exclamation mark but it works. The network controller icon is still on the menu bar. Also ‘interfaces’ and ‘current network information’ popped up in system information again. Let’s hope I have no issues again.

Update 2: it restarted on its own and it stopped working again…
