No native resolution for LG 31MU97 on Macbook Pro M1

Hi!

It's DCI display and it's native resolution is 4960*2160 but there is no such option and the highest possible resolution for some reason is 3840*2160. I have to use SwitchResX to enable it. Why is this happening?

There don't seem to be more capable cables readily available.

this spec sheet says the expected maximum resolution when connected to a Mac (even the new Mac Pro) is exactly what you are seeing: 3480x2160@60Hz

it appears they do not expect Macs to be able to set the resolution of the display to its maximum.

Your SwitchRes solution may be the only way to proceed.

LG article I found says:

INPUTS/OUTPUTS

  • HDMI 2
  • USB 3.0 4
  • Headphone Out 1
  • Display Port 1
  • Mini DisplayPort 1

what cables, adapters, and Docks are you using to make the connection? please mention EVERY item.

what Model-year Mac are you connecting?

what MacOS?

That cable should support the resolution you seek, however -- in some displays, you need to change the 'on-screen display' settings (inside the display, NOT on the Mac) to allow the highest version of DisplayPort, typically DisplayPort 1.4, because it needs to use data compression to achieve highest resolutions.
