iMac macOS Monterey v. 12.6 is unable to import photos from my iPhone 12

Monterey 12.6 is the last version of Monterey. Getting to macOS 13 Ventura requires a system upgrade, not an incremental update.

I'm wondering if this is a simple update so the Mac can talk to the iPhone or if it's a system update. I got one some time ago and it was just a quick and small install of som part of the system so it could take to the iPhone. No big deal,

If you use iCloud (?) to sync devices, then it works between versions. Mac Photos and iCloud will stay current through internet connections. It's the cable that requires version compatibility.

Another possible way to get the photos from your iPhone to your Mac is to use Image Capture. It can import into your Hotos library or download to a folder on your Desktop.

To connect a phone with iOS 16 to a Mac, the Mac needs mac OS 13, Ventura.

You can transfer Photos to Monterey with AirDrop or using iCloud. Not with a cable.

If I plug in my iOS 16 phone to my 12.6 computer, I get a message saying I need to update in order to connect.

Can you post a screenshot of the message?

Well, it seems that if I say not now, and open Photos, I see my phone's pictures. So, oops. But it's working directly, without using image capture. Hmm
