Initials suddenly appearing in contact "nickname" field and Messages

I have had this exact same issue described above and have been unsuccessful in finding out the root cause. I have an iPhone 14, iPad Mini and an iMac. I use iCloud and Google for me contacts and all 3 devices are set to google as primary contact list. Everything has worked fine until about a month ago. A month ago the only thing I did was open my contacts app on my iMac where I had not before. Now randomly if I call someone and text them their nickname field automatically populates with initials. And sometimes it is not even their initials. For example I have a group text with my parents. My moms initials are KG but after I texted her nickname became K.V.G. Which is my moms first initial, dads first initial and last name initial.

We'll be glad to look into this with you further. To start, you'd need to narrow this down and see which specific contact sources this is happening with. Otherwise, there wouldn't be a way for us to determine the potential source of this issue.

You can go to Settings > Contacts > Accounts and disable contacts from each of these and re-enable them to find where this issue may be stemming from.

Try that and let us know the results.
