Searching for past events in calendar

I cannot search previous entries in my calendar on my new MacBook Pro Apple M1 Max running Ventura 13.1. I migrated from an iMac 2017. Some entries do come up but not everything, especially birthdays

Here is what I ended up doing that solved the issue for me.

On macOS Ventura [13.1]:

  • Went into my System settings > Internet Accounts > iCloud and turned off Calendar for iCloud
  • Verified on the Calendar App that none of my iCloud accounts showed
  • Went back into System settings > Internet Accounts > iCloud and turned on Calendar for iCloud, where it re-synced all my calendar entries from my iCloud account.

I suppose this reset the calendar cache and searching on past events started working again.

Hope this helps others as well.

dejob,

Are these events still appearing in Calendar if you locate them without searching? If so, we suggest rebuilding the spotlight index for your Mac. This can resolves issues with searching:

  1. "Choose Apple menu  > System Settings.
  2. Click Siri & Spotlight in the sidebar, then scroll down and click Spotlight Privacy on the right.
  3. Drag the disk or folder that you want to index again to the list of locations that Spotlight is prevented from searching. Or click the add button (+) and select the disk or folder to add.*
  4. Folder named Documents dragged into the Spotlight Privacy window

  5. From the same list of locations, select the disk or folder that you just added. Then click the remove button (–) to remove it from the list.
  6. Click Done, then quit System Settings. Spotlight will reindex the contents of the disk or folder. This can take some time, depending on the amount of information being indexed."

-Rebuild the Spotlight index on your Mac

Cheers!

Hello dejob,

Thanks for posting in the Apple Support Communities.

We understand you're having a problem locating events in the Calendar app on your new MacBook Pro, right?

If we have that correct, could you let us know if this is happening when you Return to search for a result as opposed to allowing suggestions to appear? Check out the details below to see if this may help in what's occurring as this may be different than what you were accustomed to doing before. You can also locate more details, here: Search for events in Calendar on Mac - Apple Support

• In the Calendar app  on your Mac, enter a phrase in the search field in the top right of the Calendar window.

As you type, matching titles, locations, attendees, and notes appear in a list of search suggestions below the search field. To search using a suggestion, click it. To search for events that contain exactly what you entered, press Return.

If you're still unable to locate some entries, can you test this in another user account on your MacBook Pro? This will help to isolate whether this is related to information on your user account or not to focus on. If you need assistance with adding a new user to your Mac to test with, check out the steps located in this resource: Add a user or group on Mac - Apple Support

We hope this is able to help in determining what's occurring. If not, let us know which steps you've taken so far and provide any additional helpful details. We'll gain a better understanding to provide the next best steps to take.

Have a great day!

Ditto .. I too upgraded to Ventura 13.1 on my M1 Pro. I see past events in my various calendars [owned and shared], but when I enter a search term, I only see results from future events, not past ones.

Here is what I have done this far:

  • I checked spotlight preferences, and 'Events & Reminders' is turned on
  • 'Spotlight Privacy' has no locations to prevent it from searching

I did notice that once I 'update' a past event, that event then starts showing up in search. Clearly that should not be a solution. Is there a way to clear/delete/rebuild the Calendar Cache on Ventura ?
