Cinematic Mode on Iphone 14

I am unable to use Windows Explorer to transfer any of my Cinematic movies shot with the Iphone 14 (example IMG_E5000.mov to a Windows 10 Computer). All other 4K videos transfer fine. I've tried Photos (no luck). I get the following error everytime I try to copy a Cinematic with an E in the file name. I've tried over the course of 3 separate days. There is no Process button available (I assume they have already been processed or they wouldn't have an E in the filename)

Hello kiwilink,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities!

We want to help you transfer the movies from your iPhone to your Windows PC.

Let's make sure you're using these steps to transfer the movies:

"Import to your Windows PC

You can import photos to your PC by connecting your device to your computer and using the Windows Photos app:

  1. Update to the latest version of iTunes on your PC. Importing photos to your PC requires iTunes 12.5.1 or later.
  2. Connect your iPhone or iPad to your PC with a USB cable.
  3. If asked, unlock your iOS or iPadOS device using your passcode.
  4. If you see a prompt on your iOS or iPadOS device asking you to Trust This Computer, tap Trust or Allow to continue.

Then, visit Microsoft's website to learn how to import photos to the Windows Photos app in Windows 10.

If you have iCloud Photos turned on, you need to download the original, full resolution versions of your photos to your iPhone or iPad before you import to your PC.

When you import videos from your iOS or iPadOS device to your PC, some might be rotated incorrectly in the Windows Photos app. You can add these videos to iTunes to play them in the correct orientation.

If you want to ensure photos from your iOS or iPadOS device have the best compatibility with Windows 10, try these steps:

  1. On your iOS or iPadOS device, open the Settings app.
  2. Tap Camera, then tap Formats.
  3. Tap Most Compatible. From now on, your camera will create photos and videos in JPEG and H.264 formats."

We hope this helps to get the files transferred over to your PC and resolve the issue.

Cheers!

Hi kiwilink,

Just to confirm, do you have an option to manually process the videos shot in Cinematic mode?

"If recent videos from your iPhone don’t appear in Photos or Image Capture on your Mac or on your Windows computer, you might need to finish processing them on your iPhone.

Your iPhone processes videos captured in Cinematic mode automatically. If you have Cinematic mode videos that your iPhone hasn't finished processing, those videos won't appear in import windows when you connect your iPhone to your Mac or Windows computer.

Follow these steps to finish processing your videos on your iPhone:

  1. If your iPhone is connected to your Mac or Windows computer, disconnect it.
  2. Open Photos on your iPhone.
  3. Tap the Albums tab, then select the Cinematic album.
  4. Tap Process Now at the bottom of the album.
  5. After processing completes, connect your iPhone to your Mac or Windows computer and complete the import process.
  6. If you use iCloud Photos, you can also wait for your videos to be uploaded to iCloud Photos to access them on other devices."

If you don't see a process button after following those steps specifically, contact Apple Support for additional assistance from here.

Take care.

Thank you for your response. I’m a Network Engineer and I had already done all of the steps you outlined before I posted. I’ve also tried different cables. As you know, when shooting in Cinematic mode, 2 files with the same name are written to the IPhone directory. One appears to be a H.264 and the other is the Cinematic designated by an E in front of the file name. I’ve been unsuccessful in trying to transfer these Cinematic files. I’ve tried using Windows Explorer and the Photos app in Windows. Neither will download the files. I’ve yet to find anyone (searching via Google) that has been successful.

I have also tried a Commercial software package and all of them start the download and then say device is disconnected after about 30 seconds. I then must disconnect and reconnect the uSB cable from the phone and the computer and start over. I have also tried multiple different USB ports on the Windows 10 Desktop.

if we’re able to shoot in Cinematic on our IPhone we should be able to transfer these to our Desktop WIztHOUT Dara loss or compression. I did try switching from Compatibility to Native in the Camera Settings of the phone. Still no luck.

Thanks

Mike
