Can't open PDF documents in my iCloud.

Thank God I have my documents backed up on an external hard drive. I cannot open my PDF documents in my iCloud. My Word documents download to my Downloads folder when I try to open them. I get a new tab in my Safari that comes up blank when I try my PDF documents. I used to store them in Google Drive but they no longer support my iOS. I moved them to an external hard drive, paid $2.99 a month to increase my iCloud storage and copied everything over to my iCloud Drive. Now I can't open them. They still open just fine on the external hard drive, but not in iCloud. I am using a 2012 MacBook Pro Laptop.

Hello patwick49,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities!

We want to help you open the files using iCloud Drive on your Mac.

Make sure you're using these steps:

"Access your files in iCloud Drive

Sign in to iCloud with the same Apple ID on all of your devices. Then you can access your files in iCloud Drive in a number of ways.

On your Mac

You can access iCloud Drive in the Finder on your Mac.

When you add your Desktop and Documents folders to iCloud Drive, you can access all of the files in those folders anywhere you use iCloud. Learn more about adding Desktop and Documents to iCloud Drive."

If the issue remains, do you see any error messages at any point? Do other files have the same issue, or only with PDF?

We hope this helps to further isolate the source of the issue so you can access your PDF without the issue.

Cheers!
