outlook keeps asking for app specific password to access apple mail every time it is restarted

I have to use MS Outlook for my work mail (office 365), so I also use it for my personal Apple mail. The trouble is that every time I close and re-open Outlook, it wants a new App Specific Password, despite clicking the button to 'remember this password in keychain' ! Having to create, then copy and paste a new password is a real pain every time I re-open my mail software. Is there a trick to prevent it from doing this?

(this seems to be happening in the last few months, not had a problem before) Outlook 16.68, MacOS12.6

Are you noticing that this prompt appears after resetting your Apple ID password? We ask because that is expected when it comes to app-specific passwords:

Any time you change or reset your primary Apple ID password, all of your app-specific passwords are revoked automatically to protect the security of your account. You need to generate new app-specific passwords for any apps that you want to continue using.

When you say it wants a new app -specific password, are you prompted to create a new password or is it asking for the app-specific password you already set?
