iPhone notifications silenced

My phone is not receiving any push notifications despite all notifications turned on. I only receive notifications for text messages and calls while all other apps I have to manually open to see any new activity.

I have tried everything with still no luck including updating iOS (16.2.1), resetting my settings, updating all apps, etc, etc. I’ve tried turn notifications on/off with no luck still.

has anyone else had this issue??

Have you enabled Scheduled Summary?

Settings > Notifications > [Select the App that you are having trouble receiving immediate notifications]

See the pic below for a few examples. Please select immediate delivery.

Go to Settings and tap Notifications. Select an app under Notification Style. Under Alerts, choose the alert style that you want. If you turn on Allow Notifications, choose when you want the notifications delivered — immediately or in the scheduled notification summary.

Use notifications on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

Change notification settings on iPhone

  1. Go to Settings > Notifications.
  2. To schedule a notifications summary, tap Scheduled Summary, then turn on Scheduled Summary. ...
  3. To choose when you want most notification previews to appear, tap Show Previews, select an option—Always, When Unlocked, or Never—then tap.

You can allow access to Notification Center on the Lock Screen. Go to Settings > Face ID & Passcode (on an iPhone with Face ID) or Touch ID & Passcode (on other iPhone models). Enter your passcode. Scroll down and turn on Notification Center (below Allow Access When Locked).

@Sschmeus

I just realized this past Sunday (18.12.2022) when I was watching the world cup final that my iPhone stopped receiving Whatsapp messages from friends. It would only retrieve the messages when I entered into Whatsapp itself. I thought it was specific to Whatsapp, but over time I realized that its effecting everything!! I was not receiving any Outlook mail notifications, no Whatsapp sound/video call notifications, even no News notifications!! Hence, in a period of just 2 days, my scroll down Notifications menu has become BLANK (showing No Older Notifications)!

Only then I realized that this issue is basically effecting all push notifications for all the apps (internal notifications like calendar reminders etc. are working fine...) I tried everything that you did with no success. What amazes me is that I didn't even fiddle around and changed anything on the phone. It all happened from one day to the next??

Your post caught my attention because we are suffering from the same problem around almost the same time! If you ever get to find any solution to this problem in the coming days etc. please post an update here as well please! Keeping fingers crossed that there is a resolution to this...

Hello again Sschmeus,

Thank you for sharing your solution with the reply. I read about this somewhere else yesterday as well and deleted BBC News app (no harm since I did not care about removing all data on that app) and afterwards I also got (albeit only one so far) notification from the reinstalled BBC News app.

However, like you said, I didn't dare to do it with Whatsapp since I obviously don't want to delete all historic chat data! Do you also use Whatsapp and did you try this potential solution with it? I wonder whether in the General / iPhone Storage / Whatsapp destination we can just "Offload App" (deleting the app but keeping its documents and data) would still do the job, rather than completely deleting the app? I would appreciate it if you could share your experience updating the apps since last Thursday, thanks in advance for your time and help!
