It is notoriously difficult to prove that a crack is the result of a manufacturing or material defect. As such, screen damage is often excluded from warranty claims.
Apple offer a limited one-year warranty - against which you might attempt to make a claim. If making a warranty claim, your should first attempt to make a claim with your retailer - as it is most often the retailer with whom your purchase contract (and therefore your warranty) principally exists. If unsuccessful, you then have the potential backup of making a claim against the manufacturer’s limited warranty.
If you had the foresight of opting to purchase Apple’s AppleCare+ plan, this being an insurance product, you will have the security of being able to make claim with Apple regardless of fault. In such circumstances, a small excess/deductible charge is made - and you will receive a replacement (usually a reconditioned iPad of the same model and specification) iPad.
Should you be unsuccessful with your retailer, or if purchased directly from Apple, you would be well advised to visit the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store or Apple Authorised Service Provider (AASP) - where you can present your case and the technicians will be able to assess your iPad:
Well, glass doesn't crack on its own and it is very hard to nearly im;ossible to prove that a cracked iPad screen was not some sort of design flaw and not user accident/incident induced.
Most Apple Store locations DO NOT repair iPads, but ONLY offer in/out of warranty device replacement.
If you had the foresight to purchase two-year+ extended AppleCare+ warranty plan, device replacement will be, relatively, inexpensive with a $49 device replacement fee.
Without paid, extended AppleCare+, device replacement becomes very expensive at, approximately, 60% of that iPad's original price from Apple.
Time to use the “Support” link, in the top black menu bar, at the upper right hand corner of every Apple Support Community Webpage to attempt to schedule an appointment with your nearest Apple Store location to get your iPad evaluated.
Sorry & Good Luck to You!
