So about iOS 9's Now Playing feature...

According to the help doc from Apple it should be possible to open Now Playing in watchOS 9 "in the following ways:

  • Open the Now Playing app  on your Apple Watch.
  • Press the side button, then tap Now Playing, which appears as the first item in the Dock.
  • Tap the Now Playing complication if you’ve added it to the watch face.

It's obviously nice that they still mention the little icon, which I understand means it should appear at the top of the screen as it did pre-watchOS 9.

But on my watch (Series 4 LTE) that icon never shows up. Does anyone else have this issue?

Thank you

Philip

What version of watchOS do you have?

I used to see that all the time, butI hadn't noticed that recently the icon was missing. See:

Status icons and symbols on Apple Watch - Apple Support

where it says:

Icons for active apps in watchOS 8 and earlier

With watchOS 8 and earlier, your Apple Watch shows icons for some active apps at the top of your watch face. Most of these app icons open the app when you tap them.

If you have watchOS 9 or later, these active apps appear at the top of the Dock instead of at the top of the watch face.
