Homepod Mini no longer connects to AppleTV after 16.2 Upgrade

I can no longer use my HomePod mini's as my AppleTV speakers after upgrading to the new HomeKit Architecture with iOS 16.2.

Anyone else run into this issue and find a fix? This update supposedly made everything faster, but all I can find it how it's messing everyone's setups. Seems like it wasn't ready to come out of Beta.

Hello Questionable Sanity,

Thanks for posting in the Apple Support Communities.

It sounds like you're unable to see the HomePod mini's with your Apple TV since the latest update, right?

If we have that correct, let's see if we can help with isolating what's happening here. For starters, let's try assigning the HomePod to a different room to see if that allows you to select it on the Apple TV. Check out the steps below for assistance with this, and you can also find more details here: Change HomePod settings - Apple Support

Change settings for a HomePod or Siri-enabled accessory

1. In the Home app on your iOS or iPadOS device, touch and hold a HomePod or Siri-enabled accessory.

2. Scroll down, tap the Settings button, then do any of the following:

• Assign HomePod to a different room: Tap Room, then choose a new room.

• Allow speaker access: For information about letting others send audio to your HomePod, see Allow others to control audio on HomePod.

If that doesn't change anything, let us know if restarting the HomePod changes anything for you, and confirm if you can connect with other devices. We'll use these details to gain a better understanding of what could be occurring.

Have a great day!

No. I cannot connect to the HomePod minis - I can see them just fine. Instead, I get this infuriating message.

So far I have:

  • rest the HomePod minis
  • reset the AppleTV
  • removed all of them and re-added them to the home
  • removed and added them to different rooms

The only thing I haven't done is created an entirely new home, since that means all of my devices have to be reconnected which seems insane for something that worked just fine .1 ago.

This misbehaving setup is in the bedroom, to explain the next part.

Even more insane, if I stream to the AppleTV in the basement, say using Music on the AppleTV in the bedroom, I can also then stream to the AirPods in the bedroom. However, the second I remove the AppleTV in the basement as a streaming option, it stops being able to stream to the bedroom. I can't select it.
