False iPad battery percentage

Hello, I have an 2nd generation iPad Pro 12.9 inch. I’ve just recently discovered that whenever the battery’s nearing 40-60%, it’ll shut off, that was no problem however, since the battery is accurately calculated and I’ll charge it again until it hits 40-60% again.

That was a few days ago, today the battery reading’s stuck on 100, and then for the time being will stay that way until the iPad “runs out of power”. It’ll also switch off even if the battery’s indicated at 90%+ unless I charge it for some amount of time.

I can still charge the thing, and it works fine while being charged and used, it’s just the battery indicators false.

Is there a way to fix this, or is there something bigger? Are there any tips or steps to overcome this? Thank you in advance.

Hello dwida,

To help us get a better understanding of the issue, we’d like to ask a few questions.

1. You mentioned that this started a few days ago; were any changes made to your device before this began? If so, what changes were made?

2. Are you referring to the percentage showing in the status bar on your device, or are you referring to the percentage being displayed another way? For example, are you referring to the Batteries widget?

3. Since noticing this issue, has your device been restarted? If so, did restarting correct the issue temporarily, or was there no change?

That information will help us plan how to proceed.

Find battery percentage on other iPhone models and iPad

Battery percentage is always visible in the status bar on these devices:*

• iPhone SE (2nd and 3rd generation)
• iPhone 8 or earlier
• iPad (all models)

* If battery percentage doesn't show, go to Settings > Battery and turn on Battery Percentage.

Use the Batteries widget

Another quick way to check your battery percentage is to add the Batteries widget to your device's Home Screen or Today View. Learn how to use widgets on your iPhone or widgets on your iPad.

Thanks!
