G2 SE Shaky Camera

I have an iPhone SE, running iOS 16.2. When using the front camera the camera view screen is jittery, and the resulting image is blurred *except* when in Time-Lapse, Slo-Mo, or Pano mode. The rear camera seems to be unaffected. I have removed the protective case, cleaned the camera lens, power cycled the phone. The problem still persists. I have not tried to Reset and Restore the phone yet.

Any suggestions, short of Reset/Restore, or taking the phone to an Apple Store (I live in the boonies)?

I have tried all of the aforementioned (with the exception of bringing the phone in for inspection). I have found a work-around.

I discovered that positioning a small, button magnet near the lens would stabilize the lens without compromising the autofocus function.

I have secured the magnet to the corner of the protective case (not the body of the iPhone itself), using epoxy cement. This seems to work fine pending the seller’s replacement of the phone.

Hey David mfromparadise,

Glad to hear you have a workaround. That said, if that is resolving the issue, albeit temporarily, it does mean this is most likely a hardware issue with the camera system.

When you're able, we'd advise having the iPhone inspected. Such an issue may be covered under warranty if you're still within your warranty period or have AppleCare+.

We'd advise contacting Apple Support directly at that point to review options.

Cheers!

Hello david mfromparadise,

For issues with the front camera, you'd want to take these related steps to solve it: If the camera or flash on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch isn't working

If the camera or flash on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch isn't working

If your photos are blurry or the camera screen is black, here's what to do.

Remove case, accessory, or film and test

1. Remove any case, accessory, or film that might block the camera or flash or that places a magnet near the camera.

2. Test the camera by trying to take a photo.

3. Test the LED flash:

1. Try the flashlight in Control Center on your iPhone or Control Center on your iPad. On an iPhone X or later or an iPad, swipe down from the upper-right corner of the screen. On an iPhone 8 or earlier, swipe up from the bottom edge of any screen.

2. Tap the Flashlight button Flashlight icon.

If the flash works only sometimes, open the Camera app and tap the flash button   to choose a different setting.

Contact Apple Support

If the camera or flash still isn't working properly, contact Apple Support to discuss service options.

If you want to try more steps on your own

If you prefer, here are some more steps you can try on your own if the camera isn't working. You might still need to contact Apple Support after following these steps.

1. If the photo is blurry, clean the front and back camera lenses with a microfiber cloth. If you see dirt or debris inside the lens or if the camera lens appears to be misaligned or blocked, contact Apple Support to discuss service options.

2. Restart your iPhoneiPad, or iPod touch

3. Test the camera again by taking a photo. If your device has a front and rear camera, check if one or both isn’t working. To switch cameras, tap the rotate button .

If those steps don't solve it, then you'd need to bring in the iPhone for an inspection to determine if there is a hardware issue: iPhone Service & Repair
