Merging my iCloud account with another icloud account

How do I merge my iCloud account with my husband’s iCloud account family plan? He sent me an invitation to join but when I go to activate it, i get told that I already have an icloud account and would I like to join my husbands account. The only choice I have is to click “Join new family”. When I tap that, I get a message saying “only the organizer can disband a family”. What does this mean? How do I get around it?

iPhone 5s, iOS 12

When you use Family Sharing, you want totally separate iCloud and Apple ID’s for each member of the family. You do not want to merge accounts. I think you are confusing merging accounts with sharing iCloud Storage.

Can you use any of the features of Family Sharing? On your device go to Settings>Your Name or Apple ID>Family Sharing and see if you are listed there.
