Rules in Apple Mail not running automatically

If you have a rule checking for incoming emails from "aol", why would you expect them to work on emails coming from "gmail"?

This may not be suitable for you, but I have all my various email accounts forward their respective mail to my Apple iCloud account. This makes it easy to make the rules effective as the rules are applied by iCloud Mail to all the email prior to passing on the email to my devices.

It is getting confusing. In your original post you said "from" aol. Now you are saying "to" aol?

Post an image of your rules page. Block out actual email addresses.

If you are receiving the emails your email address is included in the To, CC, or BCC field. Probably in the BCC field if you do not see your actual email address.
