unknown error 0xE8000065

I have an iPhone 11 and trying to do a backup. When iTunes comes up and tries to connect to the phone it says "Unknown error" with code 0xE80000065. Have tried everything other sites suggested:

-reboot computer

-restart iPhone

-reinstall iTunes

-replace the USB cable with official Apple one.

-tried a completely different computer after installing iTunes.

-deleted USB drivers and let Windows reinstall.

Windows can see the DCIM file folder and I can see all the pictures and videos but no luck with iTunes.

Replace the iPhone with an iPad and the DCIM folder can be seen BUT iTunes DOES see the iPad and I can do backups using the same USB cable that the iPhone used and failed.

The only difference is the iPhone is using 16.1.1 and the iPhone 16.1.2. I cannot roll the iPhone back to 16.1.1 as it requires iTunes. Plus I have a couple of files that I cannot lose. Hence trying to backup.

Based on the above I'm thinking that 16.1.2 is the culprit.

Thoughts??

What iOS version did you update last? Simply saying "last upgrade" leaves a lot of doubt in my mind.

Many users who have updated to iOS 16 and above must have a similar issue if the issues stated by you are due to the iOS.

Unless you state what the issue is many in this forum may not be able to respond positively to the issue you are facing.

With the limited information that you have provided, It is hard to even guess the problems faced by you.

Turn your iPhone on and unlock it -> enter the passcode.

Go to Settings -> set Auto-Lock to Never.

Connect your device to your computer using an Apple USB cable & try also another USB cable.

Make sure your Windows PC is up to date & have the latest version of iTunes.

Try to free up iPhone device storage see this Apple articles below:

>> iPhone has 49GB used of 64GB. However will try to download some pics to free another 5-10GB. Based on having 15GB free not sure if this will help.

>> iPad has 28GB used of 32GB and iTunes does NOT have a problem with synch'ing and backing up.

>> No WiFi, everything done via USB cable.

>> While replying I thought try something. I have "VPN Unlimited" installed on iPhone. I never thought that it would / could interfere since using a USB cable for synch and backup. Momentarily turned it off and now iTunes is happy. So does the iPhone need something over the Internet (VPN doesn't stop TCP/IP) or is it that IOS and iTunes are a bit sensitive?

>> Any way thanks for the many comments and it looks like one of them hit the nail on the head.
