World clock complications not refreshing

For a few weeks now, world clock complications on modular watch faces do not refresh on my Apple Watch 4. I have an iPhone 11 Pro iOS 16.1.1. This has actually made me miss appointments because I look at the digital time display in the complications when I’m working.

They don’t refresh by opening the app, having world clock in the dock, resetting my watch, erasing it, re-pairing it, restarting my phone and watch, or turning off background app refreshing and turning it back on and restarting. I’ve also tried turning wifi and Bluetooth and airplane mode on and off and restarting in different combinations.

The only way the complications refresh is by having two faces with the complications at least two faces apart and swiping over to the other one. Then they both update. But it’s really inconvenient to need to swipe twice every time I want to look at my watch.

anyone have any new suggestions for fixing this? It seems like it’s an issue with the latest update, but thought I’d try asking.

Try this:

Using your paired iPhone, go into Settings (gear icon), > Privacy & Security, > Location Services, > Apple Watch Faces

Change Apple Watch Faces to "While Using the App"

This will likely fix the issue 😉

Oleg___,

There is a connection 😉

For your issue, and since you've confirmed that Apple Watch Faces is set to "While Using the App", check this one for me:

From the paired iPhone, open Settings, > Privacy & Security, > Location Services, > Clock.

Is it set to "While Using the App"?

Here's what Apple has to say about this setting:

App explanation: "Your location is used to show the local city name and global position in the World Clock app on your Apple Watch."

Hi jagälskarhundar,

It seems you're having trouble with complications staying up-to-date and we want to help.

If you haven't tried this already, issues like the one you're describing that's preventing apps from staying updated can often be solved by unpairing and pairing your Apple Watch again:

Unpair and erase your Apple Watch

That should clear any caches and restore your Apple Watch data and give this a chance at behaving correctly of you.

Let us know if that helped.

Having the same issue with Apple Watch SE2 and iPhone SE 2020.

What I end up doing is opening the World Clock app for it to refresh then editing the complication on the watch face to a different one and then editing again to the original world clock complication/ widget.

This refreshes the data but won’t refresh till I do this again. Or maybe hours later it does. This night it refreshed once I think.

same Issue here. Following your advice, I see that the setting is already set to “While Using App”, but the entire screen is greyed out and cannot be updated. The cause of that may be affecting the ability to refresh the watch face properly. As mentioned elsewhere, the app works fine, just the static clock face does t refresh.
