Can i install my sim card in the iphone 14 pro max or do I have to transfer to a esim

If it was originally sold in the USA, it only provides eSIM support. Otherwise, it'll have a physical SIM card slot.

I haven't purchased it yet but was considering purchasing it. So if i purchase it here in the USA then I can't use my sim card?
