Why is Home Screen and Lock Screen no longer able to be different photos?

Trying to change my Wallpaper and Home Screen to be different photos on iPhone 13 Pro Max with iOS 16.1.2. I'm force to select from

1) Set as Wallpaper Pair, or

2) Customize Home Screen.

Selecting either option results in the Home Screen and Wallpaper being set to the same photo after I upgraded to iOS 16.1.2.

I did Settings --> Wallpaper --> Add New Wallpaper --> Photos --> All.

Once I selected my photo that I wanted to use for my Lock Screen, I tapped the "Add" Button. A popup appeared with the two options listed above (i.e. Set as Wallpaper Pair, or Customize Home Screen). Again, both option set both my Home Screen and Wallpaper to the same photo.

Hey there pjackmack,

Let's team up to rule out some possible causes to this occurring, along with confirming some other details to better understand what's happening:

  1. You mentioned that you're not able to set each screen to a different wallpaper any longer right after updating to iOS 16.1.2, but as it was working in the past, which iOS version was installed before the latest one when it did work?
  2. Sometimes unexpected behavior can be resolved with a restart: Restart your iPhone
  3. Have you tested for this same issue when trying with other wallpapers other than the two you're trying? In other words, let us know the results if you try setting your Home and Lock Screen each to a different wallpaper that comes included with iOS.

Cheers!
