If you're using iOS 16 on your device, you can use the actions in this article to help remove duplicate contacts:

Get rid of duplicate contacts on iPhone - Apple Support

"Resolve duplicate contacts

If you have more than one contact card with the same first and last name, you can merge the duplicate contacts.

Below My Card, tap Duplicates Found.
Tap individual contacts to review and merge them, or tap Merge All to merge all duplicate contacts."

I really appreciate the answer the problem Is I have a huge amount of duplicates and old numbers that I will never use. I cloud keeps updating outlook and when it dumped some contacts to outlook my contact list now includes 5 accounts and 3 are ok but the other two I - cloud and now outlook is getting very large.

is really slow and is there a way to keep the huge list on I cloud only in case I need to reference- like off to the side and i my populate my main email ( especially outlook with only the most relevant contacts)

the large file with a 100000 contact's slows down my contact search to a

crawl and is also taking up a lot of space on I phone ( some names are duped 100 times) and most I never use ) I can’t do this manually so is there a method to clean up dups automatically?

and move the large list to My I- cloud, or PC one drive or even a external disk drive?

Keep your contacts up to date with iCloud

"Contacts stored in iCloud are archived automatically. You can use iCloud.com to restore an archived version of your contacts on all your devices if you ever need to."
