My MacBook Pro, 13 inch, of Mid 2012 with OS high Sierra is working O.K. If I upgrade to Ventura, should I go in steps of OS 10.14, ...and so no gradually? Or can I upgrade in one shot after taking a Back up?

As pervious Contributor rightly mentions Catalina macOS 10.15 is the latest this computer can run - there are options to the user ➡️
If the user wishes to explore the Apple Trading In option where the Value of the exiting machine could be used against the cost of a new Apple Computer
Or Shop Refurbished Apple computers at an Apple Reduced Cost
Have used both previously and have been satisfied each time.
You can only upgrade to Catalina 10.15.7
Just to add, Catalina is 64bit only so older 32 bit apps would need updated or replaced.
You can check which ones with Go64.
