How do I save a legacy contact key that was sent to me on my iphone

I have been added as a legacy contact and received a link via iMessage but when clicking the link it sends me to an apple web page explaining legacy contact and does not store the legacy code in my Apple ID as indicated on the support page. The person who set me up as their contact can also see that I have not saved the legacy code.

They have tried resending the code multiple times and it's always the same on my end, clicking the link just opens this page and doesn't ask me to save their code in my Apple ID : Request access to an Apple account as a Legacy Contact - Apple Support

I also do not see that I am THEIR legacy contact in the legacy contact section of my Apple ID. I was expecting this to work the same way as recovery contacts but it does not appear to be working at all. Please help!

Hi there mbranchick19,

If you are having issues sharing the access key associated with your Legacy Contact, let's ensure you are following these steps from How to add a Legacy Contact for your Apple ID first:

On your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch

1. Go to Settings, then tap your name.

2. Tap Password & Security, then tap Legacy Contact.

Tap Add Legacy Contact. You might be asked to authenticate with Face ID, Touch ID, or your device passcode.

If you are still unable to receive the access key after being added as a Legacy Contact with those steps and your device is running iOS 15.2 or later, then we would recommend contacting Apple Support.
