Homepod fails on first Siri request to set or add an alarm

When setting an alarm on my homepod, Siri rejects the first request and when the request is repeated, turns on the alarm. It appears that the first request times out and then the second one finds the alarm and sets it.

This behavior has been consistent since version 16 was released and did not get better with 16.1. I have tried resetting the Homepod without getting any different results.

Suggestions?

I too am having trouble with alarms but half the time it says I’m not connected to the internet. A few minutes later it’s back to working. The wifi drops out on mine often. Other causes can be another one of your Siri enabled devices was trying to listen so it will cancel a HomePod request. Try putting iPhones or iPads face down or cover your Apple Watch to determine if this is the cause. I turned “hey siri” off on my MacBook due to this happening too often .
